DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Summerville Commissioners of Public Works are advising residents to avoid contact with water at two creeks and the Ashley River following an untreated sewage spill.
According to the Summerville CPW, there was a sanitary sewer overflow on Sunday along Chandler Creek between Beverly Drive and Burton Avenue in the Oakbrook area of Summerville.
Authorities reported there was a high volume of overflow released from a broken pipe.
The run off from the spill entered the Chandler Bridge Creek near the Bridges of Summerville. Officials say Eagle Creek and possibly portions of the Ashley River will be affected by the spill.
Summerville CPW officials are advising area residents to avoid any contact with the water in the area for the next few days.
DHEC has been notified of the spill.
