Report: Driver found with stolen gun after nearly running over 2 people

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have arrested a 24-year-old North Charleston man accused of nearly running over two people at a West Ashley nightclub and carrying a stolen gun.

The Charleston Police Department charged Michael Jarrod Moody with reckless driving, unlawful carry of a handgun and possession of a stolen handgun.

A police officer patrolling the Plan B parking lot on 3025 Savannah Hwy early Sunday morning said he saw Moody's SUV in an illegal parking space.

An incident report states when the SUV pulled out of the parking space at a high rate of speed, the vehicle almost struck two people walking in the parking lot.

The officer than ran to the SUV and told the driver to park the vehicle.

According to investigators, when officers asked for the suspect's driver license and registration, Moody placed his hands in the air and said,"You can search the car!"

As an officer was writing Moody a traffic ticket, another officer saw a black handgun in plain view in the rear passenger floor board.

Investigators say a check on the gun revealed it to be stolen. Moody was locked up at the Charleston County Detention Center.
