JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Joint Base Charleston officials announced Monday that the 1013 Air Expo scheduled for June has been canceled.
According to Joint Base Charleston Commander, Col. Richard McComb, the decision to cancel this year's Air Expo came after officials learned the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds had to cancel their performance schedule as a consequence of sequestration.
Joint Base Charleston originally planned to hold an off-base Air Expo featuring the Air Force Thunderbirds over the Charleston Harbor. The event would take place off-base due construction on the primary runway.
"We value the patriotism and support of our community, but in light of our current fiscal challenges, commanders at all levels must make sound decisions to use resources wisely," said McComb.
No dates for future Air Expos have been set.
