BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A Summerville man was airlifted to the hospital Tuesday morning after a SUV wreck on Interstate 26 near College Park Road.

Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant with South Carolina Highway Patrol said the wreck happened at mile marker 203 just after 8:30 a.m.

Troopers said the man, 20-year-old Jariah Shaw, injured was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer west when he overcorrected and overturned. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

Wyant said Shaw, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene and took him to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Shaw was cited for driving too fast for conditions and not wearing a seatbelt.

All westbound lanes were closed for about an hour while emergency officials and troopers were on scene. Traffic was re-routed around the wreck via the nearby exit and entrance ramps.

All lanes were reopened by 10:20 a.m.
