NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police say they have arrested a 44-year-old man who inappropriately touched a 14-year-old child while he was supposed to be watching after her.
Maurice Hunter was arrested last Monday around 7 p.m. and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and lewd act upon a minor. The arrest comes after an investigation by a juvenile detective.
According to an incident report, police were called to the victim's home on Jan. 14 in regards to reports of sexual conduct with a child.
Police were told by the victim's mother that Hunter made sexual advances towards her 14-year-old daughter between November 2011 and February 2012. The acts occurred while Hunter was supposed to be watching after her while the mother was at work.
According to the report, Hunter would repeatedly ask the child to show him her breasts, and on one occasion asked her to lay in bed with him. The victim refused both of these requests.
The report also states Hunter accused the young girl of being sexually active, saying he would take her to the doctor or call her mother or grandmother if she didn't let him look between her legs. It was during these four or five occasions that Hunter would inappropriately touch her between her legs.
The victim's mother told police there was never any sexual intercourse between the victim and Hunter, who are related.
Hunter is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
