Woman struck by car in West Ashley

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A person was taken to the hospital Tuesday night after being struck by a car in West Ashley.

The Charleston Police Department responded to 1522 Savannah Highway at 8:27 p.m. regarding an incident with injuries.

When officers arrived they found a 67-year-old woman trapped underneath a Toyota Camry. Crews with the fire department and EMS then arrived and freed the woman.

According to a witness, he and the woman were walking in the roadway before both were hit by the car. The driver told police that he was traveling on Savannah Highway when he hit both victims.

The woman was transported to MUSC for apparent minor injuries. Traffic was shut down for about three hours while police investigated the scene.

No charges have been filed.
