CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 19-year-old former cadet at The Citadel has filed an assault complaint over claims she was strip-searched on campus.
On Monday afternoon, the cadet went to the Citadel Police Office with a friend and an attorney and said she wanted to report an incident that happened to her Friday afternoon.
The cadet said she had just returned to her room from parade formation and was getting blankets ready to hang when a male Human Affairs cadet told her to return to her room and wait for a colonel.
When the colonel arrived, he asked the cadet and her two roommates what they were doing. The cadet said after she told him they were cleaning, the colonel asked about a smell and searched the cadet's wardrobe.
A report states when nothing was found, a male cadet asked what she may have on her and the colonel asked the female cadet to remove her jacket.
Authorities say the colonel and all the male cadets then left the room, since the cadet had nothing underneath her jacket. The cadet's roommate then passed the jacket outside to the colonel.
The colonel and the male cadets then went back into the room after the female cadet put on a t-shirt, a report states.
According to the cadet, the colonel said that her pants needed to be checked and he and a male cadet stood in the room as the female cadet took her pants off leaving her with her underwear, t-shirt and compression pants on.
A report states that when both the colonel and the male cadet left the room, a female cadet came in and told her to remove her compression pants and pull down her underwear.
The cadet told authorities she pulled her underwear down. According to a report, the cadet said that no one touched her during the incident.
The report states that after the female cadet pulled her underwear up and compression pants back on, the colonel came back in and said "they were just checking and that everything was clear."
The cadet then called a captain and a woman who picked her up from campus and took her to an off campus home.
A statement released by the school on Tuesday states that the female cadet is no longer attending the school. The incident is being investigated by the Citadel Police Department.
