Berkeley County school district begins budget process for 2013-2014

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The district's chief financial officer says sequestration will account for roughly 5-percent of the cuts, but they will look to the general fund for that money. Last year's budget was around $205-million.

He expects the 2013-2014 budget to be a little more.

"Based on what we know from the state right now, if those things stay true, probably around 207, 208 or so," says Brantley Thomas. "Somewhere around there."

The state legislature is holding their budget talks this week. The district will hold a public hearing on the budget mid-June.
