NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

North Charleston police say a man was arrested Thursday night after a high speed chase ended in a crash on Montague Avenue.

Police say it happened around 9 p.m. when officers attempted to stop a suspected drunk driver on Montague Avenue who was heading from Interstate 26. According to officers, the driver, Donald Rickenbacker, 48, of North Charleston failed to pull over for police and a chase ensued.

Authorities say Rickenbacker lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a light pole on Montague Avenue near Interstate 526, where he was taken into custody.

Video from the scene shows the crash caused significant damage to stoplights at the intersection.

Investigators say the suspect sustained minor injuries and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Rickenbacker is charged with driving under suspension and failure to stop for blue lights and siren.  He was booked into the Charleston County Detention Center early Friday and remains behind bars.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is also investigating this accident.
