KIAWAH ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A former Marine living in rural Tennessee has won the HGTV Dream Home on Kiawah Island.

HGTV crews surprised Carole Simpson, of Columbia, Tennessee, with the good news at her front door this week.

"This is amazing," Simpson said as she answered her door to find her daughter, Nicole, and HGTV's Monica Pederson. "I almost can't believe it. This is going to be fun."

The Indigo Park home is 3,000 square feet, has three bedrooms, a central dining area, gourmet kitchen, and spectacular views of the Kiawah marshland.

Simpson is an avid baker, and she says she's especially excited about the elaborate kitchen in her new home. She's also thrilled about the gas fireplace so she will no longer have to haul wood for the fire. Simpson said she'll use some of the $500,000 cash prize to visit her son and his family in Australia.

The prize also comes with a new GMC Arcadia Denali SUV.

Simpson recently retired from a 25-year career as an automotive assembly worker. She's entered the dream home giveaway for the last four years.

Her name was randomly chosen from more than 77 million entries.
