Authorities release pictures of MUSC library theft suspect

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities are searching for a woman wanted for stealing electronic equipment from a student's backpack at MUSC's library.

On Thursday night, officers with MUSC's Department of Public Safety responded to the library in reference to the theft of personal property.

A student told officers that someone had stolen his Northface book bag, which contained an iPad, headphones, a Macbook Pro and a computer charger.

The victim said he had placed his bag at his work station and left his bag on his desk between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to go out for dinner.

When he returned, he noticed that his belongings were missing. A witness said he saw a woman pick up the book bag and leave the library around 7:30 p.m. Authorities say the woman, who officials say frequented the library was also captured on video surveillance leaving the library.

The victim later called the public safety department and said he had recovered his book bag at the woman's restroom, but all the items were missing.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black female, 5'6", 210 pounds, between 35 and 45 years old, wearing an orange shirt and black pants.
