Woods fire spreads to home in Summerville

SUMMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A brush fire spread to a home, causing major damage in Summerville overnight.

Fire crews from three departments responded to the 108 East Carolina Avenue around 11:30 p.m. after a neighbor called 911 to report a woods fire.

When crews arrived, they found the flames - aided by overgrown bamboo - had spread to an adjacent vacant home.

Part of the roof of the home collapsed. Officials said the home was up for sale.

Some firefighters remained there until 7 a.m. Saturday to watch for hot spots.  Others were called to assist with fires elsewhere in the area.
