Bucs fall in rematch to Seahawks, 10-3


UNC Wilmington plated three runs in both the third and seventh innings and took advantage of six CSU errors as Charleston Southern fell 10-3 at Brooks Field on Wednesday evening in a rematch against the Seahawks.

Kevin HickeyCody Austin and Zack Hagaman all scored runs for CSU as the Buccaneers fell to 8-14 overall on the season with the loss.

Andrew Tomasovich (0-4) suffered the loss for the Buccaneers on the afternoon, throwing 4.1 innings in allowing seven runs (one earned), and added three strikeouts on the mound.

Evan Phillips (1-0) picked up his first win on the season for the Seahawks, throwing 3.0 innings in relief, allowing two hits and one run in relief of starter Christian MacDonald.

The Buccaneers and Seahawks plated runs in the first inning as Hickey scored on a John Faircloth RBI groundout, while Michael Bass scored on Hunter Ridge's grounder.

The Bucs added a second run in the top of the third, putting runners on the corners following back-to-back singles by Hagaman and Hickey. Hagaman crossed the plate on a wild pitch, putting Charleston Southern up 2-1.

In the bottom half of the inning, UNCW took their first lead of the game as the Seahawks scored nine unanswered runs spanning from the third to the seventh innings.

UNC Wilmington plated three runs in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the seventh in building a 10-2 lead.

Charleston Southern plated their final run of the contest in the top of the ninth inning as the Buccaneers loaded the bases in mounting a comeback. Hagaman provided the scoring blow, singling in Austin with a base hit up the middle. Zach Haralambis wrapped around Hagaman's single, drawing walks to load the bases with two outs, but Wilmington escaped the jam in closing out the 10-3 win.

Charleston Southern remains on the road this weekend as the Buccaneers begin the start of a three-game series against The Citadel. The Bucs will take on the Bulldogs at The Citadel on both Friday and Sunday, while hosting their local rivals at the CSU Ballpark on Saturday afternoon. First pitch in Friday's contest is set for 6 p.m.
