SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A Sikeston doctor is in custody Saturday facing several sexual related charges.

According to the Scott County Sheriff's Office, Dr. Rajesh Malhotra, 45, has been charged with deviate sexual assault and three counts of sexual misconduct in the 1st degree.

The investigation into Malhotra started last week after investigators were contacted by a female patient of the doctor.

The patient reported that Malhotra touched her in an inappropriate way and then sent her sexual text messages.

A second victim also came forward and reported that Malhotra touched her in a sexual way and made sexual suggestions to her during an examination.

Scott County investigators worked with investigators from the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs to locate a dozen other victims, the sheriff's office announced Saturday in a press release.

The investigation is ongoing and officials are in the process of meeting with the other victims in the case.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said it is likely other criminal charges will be filed against Malhotra, who is in the Scott County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

Randy Wright, investigator with the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, says the management and staff of Sikeston Family First Healthcare have been a great help in the investigation.
