SC aims to show tourist how farming used to be

YORK, S.C. (AP) - A South County farmer is converting the land where tenant farmers once raised cotton, then peaches, then soybeans into a tourist destination for people who find it all foreign.

Roe Inman wants to show tourists what it was like to farm in York County from the late 1890s to the 1950s.

His father, grandfather and other ancestors didn't throw much away, so Inman Farms has many of the old implements and buildings that were once needed to operate a 1,000-acre homestead.

Farming the land ended about a quarter-century ago. Like many other families, the Inmans sold much of the farm and now retain about 290 acres.
