WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Firefighters responded to a fire early Sunday morning at Hampton Point Apartments on Sam Rittenberg in West Ashley after a fire ripped through the roof of the laundry /maintenance building.

Fire officials say crews arrived at the scene just before 7 a.m. and saw smoke and flames coming from the building. A spokesman for the fire department says there were small explosions coming from the maintenance shop.

Fire investigators say a lightning strike is believed to have started the fire.

No one was hurt in the blaze and the laundry/maintenance building is a total loss.
