ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - A state prosecutor says federal authorities have decided not to pursue charges against the Eutawville police chief in a May 2011 fatal shooting.
First Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe says that he will now do his own investigation, using the 500-page case federal case file to help him.
The federal report has not been released and Pascoe would not discuss its findings.
Authorities say 54-year-old Bernard Bailey was shot and killed by Eutawville Police Chief Robert Combs after a confrontation in city hall spilled outside. Investigators say Bailey was shot three times as he tried to drive away, with Combs saying he was trapped between Baily's truck and the vehicle's door.
