COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Columbia police say they have identified the person responsible for shooting a 10-year-old boy as he slept in his bed early Saturday morning.
Police say the shooting occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Marlboro Street at Hammond Village Apartments. The boy was sleeping in a bed on the second floor.
Based on their preliminary investigation, police say someone on the first floor got into an argument with a man who pulled out a handgun and fired it into the air.
The boy was shot in the leg. EMS technicians at the scene told investigators the boy's wound did not appear to be life-threatening.
Police say charges are pending against the man who fired the gun. His name has not been released.
