CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Police say a North Charleston man was arrested Wednesday for attacking his girlfriend and burglarizing her East Side home last weekend in downtown Charleston.

Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said officers arrested 38-year-old Samuel Eugene Darden and charged him with first-degree burglary.

Police said Durden's ex-girlfriend was sitting in her living room last Sunday when she heard banging on her back door, and then heard noises coming from an upstairs bedroom.  When she got upstairs, Durden climbed through a window and attacked her, police said.

He is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
