Cops: Man charged after drive-by shooting in Walterboro

WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have arrested a 28-year-old man after a drive-by shooting was reported in Walterboro last week.

According to Walterboro Public Safety, officers charged Shar'ron Maurice Jenkins with attempted murder, discharging a firearm within city limits, malicious damage to a vehicle possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and pointing a firearm.

The investigation began on Friday morning after officers responded to the corner of Gruber and Lewis streets around 8:30 a.m., an incident report states. Officers arrived and found several 9mm casings in the roadway.

While they were investigating, officers learned the alleged victim in the shooting had arrived at police headquarters to report the shooting. The victim told them Jenkins was driving his blue Cadillac STS when he began shooting at him.

Police said the investigation revealed Jenkins fired seven shots at the victim while he was driving south on Lewis Street. Some of the shots hit the victim's windshield on the driver's side, causing it to shatter.

None of the bullets struck the victim, officers said.

Jenkins turned himself in later on Friday, according to the report.
