COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - An investigation is underway after fire officials ruled a blaze at a home outside Walterboro suspicious on Sunday.
Colleton County Fire & Rescue Chief Barry McRoy said the suspicious fire happened at 118 David Street early Sunday. Firefighters arrived at brick, single-story home around 6:30 a.m. to find three quarters of the house on fire.
Firefighters said the roof on the "southern portion" of the home had already collapsed.
The fire was quickly brought under control and investigators remained on site until early afternoon.
Investigators said fire did not damage the kitchen or living room, but the rest of the home was destroyed.
The owner was out of town at the time of the fire.
Officials with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office and the State Law Enforcement Division were called to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
