ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Tim Scott is spending some time at South Carolina State University this week.
The Republican senator is speaking Tuesday at the Orangeburg school's annual spring Honors and Awards Convocation.
The convocation, called "Pursuing Academic Excellence," recognizes student scholars who have achieved academic excellence throughout this academic year.
The awards program was established in 1977 to encourage students who demonstrate academic excellence to maintain and achieve higher levels of academic pursuits and to provide an incentive to all students to achieve academic excellence.
