Report: Man arrested after walking out on $44 A.W. Shucks bill

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston police say they arrested a 20-year-old Tuesday who attempted to walk out on his bill at a downtown seafood restaurant.

Dervin Ra'kin Whitley of downtown Charleston has been charged with defrauding a hotel or restaurant.

According to an incident report, police were called out to A.W. Shucks on Tuesday, April 2 around 5:45 p.m. after Whitely tried to leave the restaurant without paying his bill.

Police say Whitley's bill totaled $44.16.

Whitley, a Trident Tech student, was taken into custody on the sidewalk in front of A.W. Shucks and transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.
