Firefighters rescue baby owl in Myrtle Beach

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A baby owl is now safe and out of harm's way after Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue extended a helping hand.

A homeowner found the owl in a nest at the Grande Dunes Resort approximately 60 feet up in a pine tree.

The resort is located off Carolina Bays Parkway, near Lewis Ocean Bay.

They called the Myrtle Beach Fire Department, who determined the owl was attempting to jump out of the nest, a feat the young owl's sibling had attempted before him but did not survive.

"The owl was brought safely out of the nest and placed in a box and secured. The owl was turned over to The Center for Birds of Prey in the Charleston area for rehab and to potentially be released back in to the wild," the fire chief posted on the Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue Facebook page.
