NEW YORK (WABC/CNN) - Some high school students from New York City will be decked out for the prom - and it won't cost them a dime.
A non-profit organization has been collecting hundreds of dresses for girls whose families lost everything during Hurricane Sandy.
The storm hit the borough of Staten Island very hard.
The organization's founder said these girls shouldn't have to miss out on a rite of passage, especially when they've lost so much.
At least one student agrees.
"I didn't want to bother my mom with the whole prom thing, like that wasn't like important, like my number one priority was my family at the time," student Amanda Delapena said.
The dresses will be given out this weekend.
Girls who need sweet sixteen or graduation dresses will also be able to pick one out.
These dresses, along with accessories, were donated by people from all over the country.
