GREENVILLE, SC (WYFF) - A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday evening while trying to reach his dog that had just been hit by a vehicle.

According to Greenville County Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis, Darryl Harris, 55, of Greenville, was struck and killed on White Horse Road on Monday.

Harris had completely crossed White Horse Road to get a pizza when his dog followed him and was struck and killed, said Ellis.

According to Ellis, Harris went back into the roadway to reach his dog and was struck and killed by a truck.

Harris was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:41 p.m., said Ellis.

The accident is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to Ellis, an autopsy will be performed Tuesday, but it appears Harris died of multiple blunt force traumas.
