SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The Sumter Police Department is investigating what led to a small child's shooting death Tuesday morning.

Deputy Chief Alvin Holsten says the incident happened at the Magnolia Manor Apartments located on South Pike Street near Highway 401.

Holsten says police received a call from a resident around 10 a.m.

Police found a 3-year-old boy dead from a gunshot wound.

Investigators are still trying to determine how the incident happened, but have not ruled out the possibility the wound was self-inflicted.
