Bluffton man charged in 2009 bank robbery

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say they have charged a Bluffton man in connection with an armed robbery that took place at a Folly Road bank over three years ago.

Joseph Urato, 41, has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Police say the robbery took place at First Federal Savings & Loan at 1185 Folly Road on November 4, 2009 around 1:45 p.m. No one was injured during the robbery.

Urato was serving time in Lieber Correctional Institute in Ridgeville on unrelated charged when he was served with the warrants for armed robbery on Tuesday, police say.

He is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
