NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The five-vehicle collision on Interstate 26 which caused a traffic nightmare for many westbound commuters on Wednesday afternoon is still under investigation, state troopers say.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant, there were two 18-wheelers involved in the wreck between mile markers 209 and 210, which happened at 3:21 p.m.
Wyant said troopers are still working to determine who was at fault.
A gas tank on one of the semis was punctured during the wreck. Department of Transportation workers covered the spill with sand. The wreck shut down I-26 for an hour and a half.
Wyant said two motorists were taken to the Medical University of South Carolina.
