CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say a man, who claimed to have been poisoned by his family, ran over a man's foot in downtown as he was driving to the hospital.
The Charleston Police Department arrested 22-year-old Terrance Lamont Gadson on Wednesday and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury.
On March 28, 2013, officers responded to Meeting and Line streets in reference to a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Emergency officials said they were stopped at a red light when Gadson pulled up to them, told them he was being poisoned by his family and that he needed to get to the hospital.
A police report states Gadson also said he thought he may have hit someone. A medic said Gadson then drove off and went through a red light.
Investigators then spoke to Gadson at the hospital. Gadson said all he could remember was that he was "hauling (expletive)" and saw someone step into the middle of the road at 492 Meeting Street.
Gadson said he tried to avoid the pedestrian, but was unable to avoid him.
The pedestrian suffered a non-life threatening injury to his left leg which required surgery, and was cited for pedestrian in the roadway.
