Dig South Digital festival kicks off in Charleston

Digital technology is being showcased this weekend as downtown Charleston welcomes its newest festival, Dig South.

High level presenters from local, regional and national companies like Facebook, Twitter, CNN, People Matter and Blackbaud, just to a name a few, will be showcasing the latest and greatest in digital innovation athe Dig South Interactive Conference and Festival.

Dig South will showcase the latest technology while bringing a fun and exciting atmosphere through live music, technology showcasing, beer gardens, comedy and after-parties. The event starts today and runs through Sunday at TD Arena and other downtown venues including The Alley and Charleston Music Hall.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - "It's inspiring to see the Southeastern digital community come together and embrace something as their own," said Dig South founder and executive producer Stanfield Gray. "From day one, the response has been energizing and it has become clear that we're part of something much bigger than the weekend. Dig South is truly becoming a movement – one that was long overdue."

Friday afternoon, attendees took part in a Studio Strut. The strut was a self-guided tour of some of Charleston's creative studios and companies. It was open to all and free to attend.

Dig South will celebrate digital innovation and creativity in the 21st-century. Festival events include an interactive conference, a technology and creative industry expo and a sideshow offering national and local touring bands, networking events and standup comedy. More than 100 conference presenters will be featured .

The lineup for the sideshows include Lee Fields & The Expressions along with Yarn, Rosco Bandana, Dangermuffin, Those Darlins, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Sam Doores and the Tumbleweeds, Barefoot Movement, Rachel Kate, The Bushels, Brave Baby, HEYROCCO, Elim Bolt and many more.

The musical acts range from soul to bluegrass, rock, funk and just about everywhere else. Bands will hit the Charleston Music Hall, Redux Contemporary Art Center, and The Alley when the sun goes down on the daytime events.

The theme for this year's event is the intersection of technology, social media, marketing and the arts. Startup companies, leading brand executives and entrepreneurs are invited to get the scoop on digital innovation, platforms, marketing, e-commerce, software development, mobile technology, social media, entertainment industry trends and much more.

Attendees are encouraged to take part in interactive forums, networking events and parties, product demos, expert advice and more.
