Davidson scored two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game, and then Michael Zeblo hit a bases-loaded single with two outs in the 10th inning to win the game for the Wildcats, 5-4.
College of Charleston (19-15, 10-6) had led the entire game until the Wildcats (10-23, 5-12) rallied to tie it in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Cougars only managed four runs on 11 hits and six Davidson errors, the most by an opponent all season. However, the Cougars stranded 14 runners on base and could not pull away from the host Wildcats.
CofC's Jimmy Revan (1-2) pitched the 10th inning and suffered the loss, allowing the Wildcats' game-winning run. Reliever Matt Saeta (2-1) picked up the win for Davidson.
Charleston starter Ryan West earned the no-decision, retiring the first 10 batters he faced. He ended up allowing two runs through 5.1 innings, striking out eight and only walking one. Drew Freie pitched well to keep Davidson at bay into the eighth inning. However, Blake Ross allowed the tying runs in the ninth, before Dre Watts was able to pitch out of the damage and preserve a 4-4 tie for extra innings.
Blake Butler tallied three hits for the second consecutive game, while Morgan Phillips also had a big day at the plate going 3-for-5 with his first career home run. Ben Boykin and Gunnar Heidt both had multiple hits and an RBI.
Davidson's offense was led by David Daniels who knocked two hits and a solo homer, and Nathan Becker who finished with two hits and two runs.
Charleston opened strong with two runs in the first inning, getting RBI singles from Gunnar Heidt and Carl Wise. Despite putting runners in scoring position in the second and third frames, CofC could not come up with an RBI hit and the score remained at 2-0.
Ryan Welke led off the fourth inning with a walk and the Cougars loaded the bases with none out after singles from Phillips and Butler. However, a sacrifice fly from Ben Boykin scored the only run of the inning and CofC settled for a 3-0 lead.
Davidson responded with two runs in the fifth beginning with a lead off solo homer from Daniels. The Wildcats loaded the bases with no one out, but West pitched well to only allow one run to score, a fielder's choice RBI from Zeblo that cut the lead to 3-2.
Phillips added an insurance run in the eighth inning with his first career home run, a solo blast to left field that pushed the lead to 4-2.
The Cougars had an opportunity for more runs in the ninth inning after two Davidson errors and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with just one out. But a soft grounder from Cody Martin got the second out on a force play at the plate and then Bradley Goodson flew out to end the inning.
Davidson's ninth-inning rally started with a single from Becker and walk from Ben Arkin. Lee Miller hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3, and then Sam Foy loaded the bases with no one out with a bunt past the pitcher. However, Watts rallied to strike out Zeblo and get Andrew Barna to foul out.
However, with two outs, Davidson's Ryan Lowe was hit by a pitch that scored the tying run. Watts struck out Forrest Brandt to keep the Wildcats from ending the game in the ninth inning.
Daniels hit a leadoff double for the Wildcats in the 10th, but the Cougars got two outs with two strikeouts. However, Zeblo singled through the right side to score the game-winning run with the pressure on and Davidson took the 5-4 victory.
The game was the third extra-inning contest in the last four games for College of Charleston. The Cougars will now face the team's sixth Sunday rubber game. Sunday's game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
