College of Charleston junior Brandon Murray was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, the Collegiate Baseball newspaper announced Monday. He was also named the SoCon player of the week.
Murray set a new school record with his nine-RBI performance in Sunday's 18-5 win over Davidson. His nine RBIs were the third-most in a single game by any college player in the country this season, and the most by a SoCon player since 2008.
A native of Nassau, Bahamas, Murray hit a grand slam, a three-run homer and a two-run double to lead the Cougars to their best offensive outing of the season in the 18-5 rout of Davidson. For the weekend, Murray finished with three home runs, 13 RBI and a 1.154 slugging percentage.
The national award is the first for the junior outfielder, and the first by any CofC player this season.
This is the first SoCon weekly honor for the Cougars this season, and the second conference weekly award for Murray in his career.
