CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - College of Charleston President George Benson said representatives from the college and the Medical University of South Carolina have formed a committee to study new "expanded opportunities" which included a possible merger.
Benson said both institutions will review ways in which they currently work together and consider new possibilities for collaboration.
"The concept of a merger between the College of Charleston and MUSC has been raised in various discussions over the past three decades," Benson said in a statement released Tuesday night."In any discussions of increased collaboration between the two institutions, the idea of a merger emerges as one possibility."
School officials say Benson has spoken in the past several months about the future of the college, including combining forces with MUSC.
