NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A number of schools in North Charleston were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after a suspect fled a traffic stop in the area.
According to authorities, the Charleston School of the Arts, Academic Magnet High School, Morningside Middle School, Liberty Hill Academy, Charleston Progressive Academy, North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary School, and Hursey Elementary School were locked down.
The lockdown was lifted just before 10:30 a.m.
North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle at Morningside and Singley streets, but the driver jumped out and ran across Montague Avenue towards Gaynor Avenue.
Officers searched the area for the suspect. Pryor has not said if police made an arrest.
