CHARLESTON, SC -
There were times last year when it looked like Alex Ellis might not reach the lofty goals that were set for him at the College of Charleston. He had struggles on the course and in the classroom but he's bounced back this year, big time, not only shaving more than a stroke off his score but also tripling his GPA.
"I think I just got more comfortable. Last year I struggled taking care of school and taking care of golf." Ellis said.
The turning point may have come last summer when he was playing in the US Amateur and just missed qualifying for the U.S. Open by just 3 strokes. That disappointment helped him realize the potential that he has.
The best may still be yet to come for Alex. He'll try to lead CofC to the SoCon title this weekend before becoming a team captain next year. And this summer, he'll try again to qualify for the U.S. Open.
"Now I know I can compete with any of them"
