CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Bond was set at $250,000 for a former pastor who is accused of kidnapping four women and raping three of them.
A Circuit Court judge set bail on Wednesday for Dale Richardson who investigators say offered the victims rides then kidnapped them at gunpoint before raping them. Richardson's attorneys from Savage Law Firm had filed for bond in late March.
A group of people showed up to support Richardson during a hearing, and attorneys argued his bail, which was over $1 million, was excessive since he had no prior record and his whole family lived in Summerville, according to Savage Law Firm Associate Attorney J. Scott Bischoff.
The judge took about a month to make the decision.
Bischoff said on the conditions of his bail, Richardson would be required to appear at all court dates. He must also undergo GPS monitoring in addition to following a strict sunset-to-sunrise curfew at his home. He would be under house arrest, only allowed to leave home for medical reasons, visiting his attorney, or visiting church or work.
However, Bischoff also said it was unlikely Richardson would be able to afford the bail.
Richardson has been held without bond at the Dorchester County jail since July of 2011.
Deputies say two of the sexual assaults, happened on the grounds of Richardson's former church, Freedom Free Will Baptist Church.
