Charleston Southern's Bobby Ison has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, for games played April 15-21, the League announced today.
Ison, a sophomore from Goose Creek, S.C., batted .526 (10-for-19) for the week in leading the Bucs to a 3-1 record, including a series win over Big South foe Presbyterian College. The centerfielder started hot with a 4-for-6 effort against Savannah State on April 17 as CSU exploded for 20 hits in an 11-5 win. He followed with a pair of multi-hit games in the Bucs' series against the Blue Hose over the weekend, including three doubles. He finished the four-game span with 10 hits and had a pair of stolen bases.
The honor marks his first Big South Player of the Week nod this season.
Liberty's Trey Lambert was tabbed The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week.
Lambert, a junior from Tazewell, Va. struck out nine Winthrop hitters en route to a complete game win over the Eagles on April 21. After allowing a run in the first inning, the right-hander pitched eight scoreless innings and held the Eagle hitters to a .188 average at the plate. The performance was his second consecutive complete game and third of the season. The honor marks his first Pitcher of the Week plaudit this season.
