CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say they have arrested a man seen firing a handgun near a downtown Charleston street corner on Wednesday night.
Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said dispatchers received several calls around 8:30 p.m. concerning a man firing gunshots near the corner of Romney and King streets. Citizens said they saw a man run down Romney Street after firing the shots.
Francis said the suspect, 22-year-old Anthony Rashad Edwards, was found a short time later near Cypress and King streets holding a stolen handgun. Francis said investigators have not determined if Edwards was shooting at someone, or just randomly firing.
He was charged with possession of a stolen handgun, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and discharging a firearm.
Edwards was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.
