JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a James Island man Wednesday morning after they say he lied about a burglary to have his prescription for Suboxone, a substance used to treat opiate addiction, refilled.

Matthew Scott Kafer, 23, of Camp Road, has been charged with filing a false police report, according to Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis.

Francis said Kafer reported the burglary on Apr. 11. He told police it happened around 1 a.m., when someone entered his residence through an unlocked bedroom window. Francis said Kafer told police the suspect stole 76 Suboxone pills.

Investigators later determined there was no burglary, and Kafer admitted to staging it in order to have his prescription refilled, Francis said.

Kafer is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.
