CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Dozens of local veterans have now seen the very memorials built in their honor.
Thirty veterans, who served in World War II and the Korean War, flew to Washington D.C. to visit war memorials on Saturday.
"It was a wonderful experience beyond my expectation," 1st Class Seaman Johnie Johnson said. "It really was wonderful."
The organization "Honor Flight Lowcountry" provided the veterans with the all-expenses paid trip. The group later returned to Charleston International Airport to much fanfare, including a performance by the Charleston Police Pipes and Drums.
"I think it was wonderful," Flight Officer Donald L. Williams said. "They did a bang-up job."
