SALISBURY, MD - It was a pitcher's duel in game one of a four game set between the Delmarva Shorebirds and the Charleston RiverDogs on a cool evening in Salisbury, Maryland. The Shorebirds (14-15) bested the RiverDogs (14-13) 3-2 Saturday evening at Perdue Stadium in front of 7,869 fans; the most Charleston has played in front of this season.

Charleston starter Gabe Encinas received a no decision and kept his perfect record intact in his shortest outing of the season. Encinas lasted 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and he recorded five strikeouts. Ben Paullus (1-1) relieved Encinas, as he tossed 3.2 innings in relief and surrendered a run on six hits to go along with four strikeouts. Taylor Garrison pitched a perfect eighth for Charleston.

Reymond Nunez was a late scratch in the RiverDogs lineup, allowing Yeicok Calderon to be inserted into the lineup. Calderon was responsible for both runs batted in for the RiverDogs as he plated Greg Bird in the fourth on an RBI groundout to first, after Bird had reached on an error by the shortstop. The second run for the RiverDogs came across in the sixth-inning when Calderon had an RBI single that scored Jake Cave who had reached earlier on a single of his own.

Eight of the nine batters reached base Saturday night for the Delmarva Shorebirds. They were led by second-baseman Tucker Nathans who finished 1-for-4 with a single, a walk and two runs scored. Shorebirds starter Brady Wager was solid as he tossed six innings of four hit ball and allowed two runs, one earned and struckout six. Picking up the win in relief was Juan Guzman (2-0). Guzman closed out the game, throwing the final three innings and allowed no runs on no hits and struckout two.

Game two against the Shorebirds is scheduled for 2:05pm Sunday afternoon. Charleston sends LHP Dietrich Enns (1-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound, as Delmarva counters with fellow RHP Parker Bridwell (2-2, 5.11 ERA). You can listen to the game locally on ESPN Radio 910 AM or online at www.riverdogs.com.
