(RNN) - Dennis Rodman sent a tweet calling on Kim Jong Un to "do him a solid' and release American citizen Kenneth Bae. Bae was sentenced to 15 years hard labor after North Korea deemed he was a threat to the government.

The former NBA icons tweet says, "I'm calling on the Supreme Leader of North Korea or as I call him "Kim", to do me a solid and cut Kenneth Bae loose."

Rodman and the Harlem Globetrotters traveled to North Korea earlier this year. After meeting dictator Kim Jong Un, Rodman called him a "friend for life."

According to CNN, Rodman said he plans to vacation with the leader.

"I don't condone what he does, but he's my friend," he said.

Bae, 44, was arrested in Nov. 2012. He was found guilty in April 2013 of "hostile acts," according to the Korean Central News Agency.
