Destructive ants found in cargo at Charleston port

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A number of the world's most destructive insects were found in a cargo container at the Port of Charleston last month, officials say.

According to the United States Customs and Border Protection, big-headed ants were found in an aluminum scrap metal container sent from Costa Rica.

The ant can not only cause serious problems for plants, but are also known to chew through electrical wires and phone cables.

Officials said crews will be thoroughly fumigating the cargo.
