Surveillance pictures released of gas station armed robber

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department has released surveillance pictures of a suspect wanted for an armed robbery at a gas station on Johns Island.

On Tuesday night, police officers responded to the Kangaroo Express gas station on 1786 Main Road for a report of an armed robbery.

The victim, an employee at the gas station, said he was outside putting unsold newspapers in a box when the suspect walked up behind him, placed a gun to the back of his head and told him to go inside.

Surveillance video shows the suspect and victim entering the store and going to the register where the suspect continued to hold the gun to the back of the victim's head.

The victim said he emptied the cash register and put the money into a paper bag which he gave to the suspect who then demanded cigarettes. After the suspect took 10 packs of Newport cigarettes, he ordered the victim to get on the ground and not get up until he was gone.

Investigators found two of the packs of cigarettes in the parking lot, and three others on the road.

Police describe the suspect as a black male with a dark complexion, between 6-feet and 6'1", slender build, 20 to 30 years old, wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts and was seen with tube socks over his hands armed with a small silver handgun.
