CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have arrested another suspect in Kentucky in connection to a murder-for-hire plot to kill a Mt. Pleasant woman, according to prosecutors.
Court documents state Rachel Palmer has been charged with conspiracy to use interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder for hire.
Authorities have already arrested Wendy Moore, Aaron Wilkinson and Samuel Arthur Yenawine, whose court hearing on Monday was postponed so he could acquire a local attorney following his extradition from Kentucky.
Yenawine is accused of conspiring with his ex-wife, Moore, Wilkinson, and Palmer, his girlfriend, to murder Nancy Latham. Court testimony revealed Moore had been living with and working for Latham's estranged husband, Christopher Latham, a Bank of America executive.
Federal investigators allege the hit was to be carried out the day before the Lathams were supposed to appear in family court for divorce proceedings.
The plot unraveled after Wilkinson confessed his role to Charleston Police Department investigators, following a random traffic stop just days before the planned hit. Authorities say Yenawine provided the handgun which was to be used during the hit.
According to investigators, Wilkinson said Yenawine gave him $4,000, which was allegedly to pay for the hit, to deposit into his wife's bank account so Palmer could accompany her to the bank and withdraw the money back in Kentucky.
Court records state after Yenawine began to plot how they were going to kill Latham, Wilkinson said Yenawine began to argue with Palmer about the money Wilkinson had deposited.
Investigators say Yenawine told Wilkinson he was worried Palmer would spend all the money on drugs, so they decided to get back in the car and return to Louisville.
Authorities say when they arrived in Louisville, Wilkinson said Yenawine confronted Palmer and took about $3,000.
Before his extradition, Yenawine pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiring with others across state lines to commit murder, according to court records.
Wilkinson and Moore are being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
