ST. PETERSBURG, FL (BAY NEWS 9/CNN) - Police say a man running from deputies ran into the more feared bite of an alligator.
Bryan Zuniga, 20, now has his arm in a sling and a gash on his face. Deputies said Zuniga ran away from a traffic stop and was attacked by a gator while trying to hide in a creek near a water treatment facility.
Deputies say they pulled Zuniga over in Pinellas Park, FL for failing to stay in his lane. When Zuniga stopped his car, deputies said he ran, kicking in a fence to get away.
Nearly six hours later, deputies said Zuniga showed up at St. Petersburg General Hospital where he was treated for multiple puncture wounds to his face, arms and armpit area.
Deputies are unsure about how big the gator that attacked the suspect is, and Zuniga isn't talking.
A Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission Officer said they've opened up an incident report on the case. The officer says anytime a gator attacks a human, it has to be caught and euthanized.
Wildlife officials said they have to wait for the suspect to show them exactly where the attack took place before they go gator hunting.
