Charleston Southern's Bobby Ison has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week for the second time this season, the League announced today.
Ison, a sophomore from Goose Creek, S.C., posted 10 hits and a .455 average at the plate to lead Charleston Southern to a 3-2 record last week, including a key series win against Radford over the weekend. The centerfielder recorded four multi-hit games and highlighted his week with three hits in game one against the Highlanders on May 11. Ison added three RBI, two doubles and a triple in the five game span with six runs scored. The honor marks his second Big South Player of the Week nod this season.
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday against The Citadel at CSU Ballpark. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
VMI's Reed Garrett of VMI was tabbed The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week.
Garrett, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., notched his first career complete game win with a career-high nine strikeouts against Winthrop on May 11. The right-hander surrendered only one walk in the outing and held the Eagles to just three hits. His nine strikeouts were the most by a Keydet pitcher this season as he did not allow a runner to reach third base until the final inning. The award marks his first Big South Pitcher of the Week plaudit this season.
