NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The motorcyclist authorities say caught fire while driving on Interstate 26 on Tuesday morning has been released from the hospital.

According to Medical University of South Carolina spokesman Tony Ciuffo, the 21-year-old victim from Moncks Corner had been discharged.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said the man's motorcycle started burning in the eastbound lanes of I-26 near mile marker 213 around 7:11 a.m.  Shortly after the 1986 Honda motorcycle started burning, the flames spread to the man.

According to the victim's family, the motorcyclist suffered first, second, and third-degree burns to his legs and face, as well as cuts and bruises.  Family members said the victim would be ok, but his motorcycle cannot be repaired.

The incident contributed to delays for inbound motorists.
