JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

A 31-year-old Johns Island man accused of stealing two trailers from a construction site for a new apartment complex in West Ashley was taken into custody late Tuesday.

According to Charleston County Detention Center records, Lauren Bland Cook, of 4355 Chisolm Road, was booked into the jail early Wednesday morning on two charges of property crime enhancement.

Charleston Police Department investigators say Cook stole a black, open-air trailer and a white utility trailer holding $5,000 in tools from 1749 Bees Ferry Road, the site of the new Bees Ferry Apartment Complex, during the early morning hours of Apr. 17.

The utility trailer was valued at $6,000 and the open-air trailer was valued at $2,000.

Investigators said they found both trailers at Cook's mother's house on Humbert Road. They also said they found some of the tools at Cook's home.

Cook is expected to have a bond hearing on Wednesday.
